Regular sitting
We hold formal meditation sessions every week in the evenings, on Wednesdays between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm. The event listing on this site indicates the actual schedule, so be careful and check it if you are unsure.The regular sitting schedule consists of the following portions:
7:30 Setup and Opening
7:35 Zazen, Kinhin
8:05 Zazen, Kinhin
8:30 Zazen
8:55 Closing and Clean-up
Zazen (seated meditation) and kinhin (walking meditation) make up approximately thirty minutes. The sitting portion lasts between 20 and 23 minutes. The sitting is led by a timekeeper (jikijitsu) who performs the opening and closing ceremony of the zendō and uses a bell and clappers to indicate the various portions of the evening.
The closing of the evening includes a short chant followed by prostrations.
